Back2Back is Back!
One of America’s favorite double race weekends is back for 2018 with a whole new look, the Mississippi Blues is teaming up with the Big Beach Marathon for the new Blues2Beach Back2Back Challenge. Back2Back participants will run the Blues on Saturday, January 26, then head south to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the Big Beach Marathon on Sunday, January 27, starting and finishing at the world famous Hangout.
Each event offers both marathon and half marathon distances so runners who complete any combination of the two will receive a Back2Back Challenge finisher’s award. Additionally, runners who complete the marathon at both events are instantly eligible for Marathon Maniacs’ Iridium level! Be sure to check the appropriate box on our registration form indicating your interest in participating in the Back2Back Challenge.
How to Get Your Back2Back Medal
If you are participating in the Back2Back Challenge you will need to wear the wristband in your packet during the race Sunday in Gulf Shores. Your wristband will get you your B2B Challenge medal at the Big Beach finish line.
How to Take the Challenge:

- Check the box on either registration form indicating that you want to be part of the Back2Back Challenge (You will be charged a $2 administrative fee).
Ride the Blues Bus
The Blues Bus returns for 2019. The Blues Bus offers round trip charter service between Jackson and Gulf Shores for runners, family and friends. Buses will board Saturday afternoon in the Blues start/finish area and travel to the Big Beach Marathon start/finish/expo area for packet pickup, then return to Jackson Sunday afternoon after Big Beach. There are a number of hotels in the immediate area of the start/finish and expo.If you have already registered for the Mississippi Blues Marathon and Back2Back Challenge but need to purchase bus tickets, click here.
If you really want to relax and recover between races, check the box to ride the Blues Bus round trip from the Blues start/finish area to the Big Beach Marathon expo on Saturday afternoon for $60. The bus returns to the Blues start/finish area in Jackson Sunday afternoon after Big Beach. Blues Bus questions:
- What is the cost of the bus charter service for the Back2Back race?
The cost of the Blues Bus is $60 per person for the round trip service regardless of whether you return to Jackson.
- What are the times the shuttle will be leaving and returning to Jackson?
If we have reservations to accommodate more than one bus, the first bus will leave as soon as it is full. The next departure time will be scheduled to leave at 2:30 p.m. We will try to follow this schedule both days, leaving Jackson on Saturday and leaving Gulf Shores to return to Jackson on Sunday.
- Can friends and family members not participating in the race but traveling with a registered runner ride the bus?
Yes. Just select the number of tickets you need when you register for either race.
- Where are the pick up/drop off locations?
The Blues Bus will depart from the Blues start/finish area in front of the Jackson Convention Center on Saturday and return to the same location on Sunday. The bus will unload Saturday and load Sunday after the race in Gulf Shores in the parking lot between the Phoenix All-Suites Hotel and the Big Beach start/finish at The Hangout. The most convenient accommodations to the loading/unloading area are the Phoenix All-Suites Hotel, the Regatta Condominiums, Best Western On The Beach, and the Beach View Condominiums.
